I recently heard that scientists have discovered that when you’re grateful your mind becomes more agile, more flexible, more adaptive. If that is son, then doesn’t it make sense to say that when you’re grateful you become smarter? Not only do you become smarter, but your heart expands twice its size, and you judge less, are more accepting of others and you are more compassionate.

Now, imagine, being grateful not only on Thanksgiving, but everyday you wake up. Practice this, for a couple of days, and see if you experience the results of the grateful heart.
I am grateful for the opportunity to help others find clarity, peace, and joy when they make the decision to downsize, declutter, or simply get organized. Not only do their facial expressions change, but they breathe easier and feel accomplished. My clients have also found the satisfaction in giving their excess to those in need, and to organizations who make a difference to others’ lives.

Be grateful for your life, just as it is and find glimmers of “goodness” around you. You don’t have to have lots of money, or live in a mansion, just look around. You have a place you can call home, family that loves you, friends, and neighbors that step in when you need them, pets that love you unconditionally and jobs, careers or businesses that allow you to provide for yourself and your family. Don’t compare yourself to others because they are also comparing themselves to you. The grass is not always greener on the other side, and by looking “over the fence” you are missing out on the riches right in your own backyard.

If you have an abundance of possessions, food, or time, open your heart, and share with others. For those receiving, pay it forward. Remember love is the new currency and it doesn’t require a credit check or a bank account.

“Spread love everywhere you go.
Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”
~Mother Teresa
